Title of position: SEM Field Engineer

This position will be required to work a rotating shift pattern.

Responsibilities:

Job duties:

SEM Field Engineer will be the person in charge of all SEM tunnelling operations. The SEM Shift Engineers will manage the SEM Shift Superintendents, Lead Miners, Miners, etc. The SEM Field Engineer works 24/7; produces the start of shift safety briefings and constantly monitors safety; is responsible for safe and efficient execution of the works; ensures and enables morning briefings to work force; records as built information, lining thickness (as constructed); records advance rates; verifies and signs off Check Sheets; carries out inspections as required by ITPs; completes shift report detailing day’s events including a chart describing work carried out at quarter hourly intervals; implements and monitors compliance with RESS; carries out compliance checks as indicated by the ITP; management of resources and underground logistics; ensures that all relevant activity plans have been briefed; ensures all plant and equipment is on-site and is maintained correctly

Terms of employment: Full-time, project-based for a 2-3 year period starting April 2017

Salary: $70,000-$120,000 annually commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Bachelor of Science Mining Engineer, must have applicable underground and/or mining experience;
    • Familiar with OHSA and aware of the role of ‘supervisor’ under the OHSA;
    • MOL’s required basic supervisory safety awareness training; and
    • A working knowledge of English.
  • Work experience
    • Minimum 8 years’ experience utilizing SEM/NATM techniques in tunnel with shotcrete support;
    • Minimum one SEM/NATM tunnel excavation in soft ground and of similar complexity as Oakwood, Avenue, Laird and Leaside Stations, with multiple drifts using SEM/NATM techniques and excavation equipment as suggested for these stations (Tunnel Excavator)).
